Fun Christmas games to play

Fun Christmas games to play

Have you and your family ever been bored after you open all the presents? Me neither. That’s because at my family Christmases we play fun games after we open presents. Here are some ideas that you can use at your Christmases.

My favorite is White Elephant. In this game you put all the gifts in the middle of everyone sitting in a circle. One person picks a gift and the next person can steal their gift or pick a new one, and it continues till everyone has a gift. Then you can either trade or keep your gift.

Another game that has been around forever is “Secret Santa.” prior to Christmas, everyone draws a name out of a hat and you have to get a gift for that person. No one knows who is buying for them and you exchange gifts on Christmas. Its a fun game that guarantees you an extra gift if you didn’t get what you wished for.

A game that I have only been able to play a couple of times due to living in the Midwest is called “hot snowball.” Well, that’s what we call it, but there may be another name for it. It’s basically hot potato but while passing the snowball around, if the snowball breaks, that person loses the game.

My brothers and I are pretty competitive, so when we play hot snowball, we each pick a gift that we wouldn’t mind giving up. Whoever loses the game has to give up a gift to the winner.

A game I have never played but I could see as being fun is called “Ornament Guess”. For this game, you have your guests guess the number of ornaments on your Christmas tree. The person who guesses the correct number or the closest number, gets a small gift.

This next game is similar to Spoons. You start with candy canes in the middle of the players and everyone reaches for a candy cane, and if you didn’t get a candy cane then you lose. You then remove one candy cane and repeat. This goes till you have two players and only one candy cane; then you get your winner.

This last game is a pretty simple one and can get kind of boring pretty quick.

This is called “Name that Carol” where each player sings a bit of a Christmas Carol and the other players have to guess that carol.

There are a few Christmas related games you can use at your celebration this year with your family and friends.

Have a Merry Christmas.
