We sit down with Addi McNair, Cydney Pethtel, Emily Rachoy, Autumn Taylor, and Alyssa Tipton to ask them questions as their season starts to take off.

Addi is involved in Drama Club, Pay-it-Forward, Softball and Basketball.

How long have you been playing basketball?

Addi played basketball all the way through middle school at Robinson. Then she started again her sophomore year when she moved to Palestine. Addi didn’t play last year because she was injured before the season started.

Which coach has had the biggest impact on your basketball experience, and why?

Coach Kidwell has had the biggest impact on Addi even though this is only his first year. This is because he tried to help her find ways to potentially play this season.

What are you looking forward to the most this season? And the least?

Addi is looking forward to the numerous opportunities that will come with having new coaches. Addi also says that she is not looking forward to playing Robinson this season.

What is your opinion on Coach Turner?

Addi says that she has known Coach Turner a majority of her life and thinks that he is going to be an awesome coach.

What is the significance in your number?

Addi has always picked #13 for every sport that she plays. She says this is because the number has always brought her a lot of luck.

Cydney Pethtel- Senior
Cydney Pethtel- Senior

Cydney Pethtel is a senior at Palestine High School and is involved in basketball, golf, and drama club. Cydney is secretary of her class and is an IL state scholar.

How long have you been playing basketball?

Cydney has been playing basketball since third grade. She started her basketball career in the Hutsonville basketball league.

Which coach has had the biggest impact on your basketball experience, and why?

When asked who had the biggest impact on Cydney’s basketball career, she told me, “Mrs. McKinley, because she opened the doors to my love of basketball, constantly pushing me to reach my highest potential.

What are you looking forward to the most this season? And the least?

Cydney is looking forward to grow as a team, especially because there are so many new players this year. She is also looking forward to advancing in regionals, hopefully winning. Playing Robinson is what Cydney is least looking forward to.

What is your opinion on Coach Turner?

Cydney informed me that Coach Turner is really going to be a good coach. He pushes his players to get better and learn new things.

What is the significance in your number?

Cydney has always been #20. She says this has always been her lucky number. If Cydney is in a position where she has to choose a number, she will always choose #20 because she knows it will bring her luck.

Emily Rachoy- Sophomore
Emily Rachoy- Sophomore

Emily Rachoy is a sophomore at Palestine High School. She is involved in golf, basketball, track, student senate, garden club, and yearbook.

How long have you been playing basketball?

Emily has been playing basketball since 2nd grade. As soon as she was old enough to start playing, she started the Hutsonville basketball league.

Which coach has had the biggest impact on your basketball experience, and why?

Emily had to make a hard choice when asked what coach made the biggest impact on her basketball experience. She decided that Coach Turner has made the biggest impact on her basketball experience because she has learned more from him than from any other coaches combined.

What are you looking forward to the most this season? And the least?

Emily says that since the bus rides to games are so fun, this is what she is looking forward to the most. She is looking least forward to the Saturday practices.

What is your opinion on Coach Turner?

Emily says that Coach Turner really wants his team to win, and in order to do so, he pushes his team to play hard. He doesn’t push them too much, but just the right amount.

What is the significance in your number?

Emily has always been #4 because she started playing sports when she was four years old.

Autumn Taylor- Sophomore
Autumn Taylor- Sophomore

Autumn Taylor is a sophomore at Palestine High School. She is involved in basketball, drama club, football cheer, yearbook, and garden club.

How long have you been playing basketball?

Autumn started playing basketball in the Hutsonville league in second grade.

Which coach has had the biggest impact on your basketball experience, and why?

Autumn told me, “Mr. Blank had the biggest impact on my basketball experience because when I was falling out of love with the sport, Mr. Blank helped me regain the love I once had for basketball.”

What are you looking forward to the most this season? And the least?

Autumn is looking forward to growing closer to her teammates. “Our team is really fun.” Autumn is least looking forward to running at practice and losing games.

What is your opinion on Coach Turner?

“Coach Turner pushes us and knows a lot about basketball, he is a good coach.”

What is the significance in your number?

Autumn had always had #25 up until middle school when it became unavailable. Since then, she has been #30.

Alyssa Tipton- Freshman
Alyssa Tipton- Freshman

Alyssa is involved in Volleyball, Track, Basketball, Drama Club, Yearbook, and Student Senate.

How long have you been playing basketball?

Alyssa has been playing basketball since 5th or 6th grade because she had friends that also played.

Which coach has had the biggest impact on your basketball experience, and why?

Coach Turner has had the most impact on me because I have been able to learn more from him in a little amount of time.

What are you looking forward to the most this season? And the least?

Alyssa is looking forward to working hard in order to keep her spot on varsity. She, like many other players, is not looking forward to playing Robinson this season.

What is your opinion on Coach Turner?

Alyssa thinks that while Coach Turner is already a good coach, as the season moves forward he will become even better.

What is the significance in your number?

Alyssa says that there is no significance behind #2. She claims that it was one of the last jerseys that was left after the upperclassmen picked their numbers.
