Winter Sports Beginning

Winter Sports Beginning

As fall sports wrapped up their seasons a couple of weeks ago, we are now heading towards our winter sports season. Boys basketball, girls basketball, basketball cheer, wrestling, and scholastic bowls are now in full force.

OPH boys basketball has been having open gyms during the off season, but they have started official practices this week. They are practicing at Oblong High School gymnasium from 4:30 to 6:30 PM. Their first game of the season is on November 28th at 5:30 at Hutsonville High School. The OPH Wildcats play the Rivet High School Patriots.

OPH girls basketball has also been putting in work during the off season with open gyms leading up to official practices. The girls started practicing last week in Oblong, and are now on their second week of practice at Palestine High School from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The girls’ first game is coming up quick on November 13th at 5:30 PM at Palestine Grade School. Their opponent is the Dugger Union Community Lady Bulldogs.

OPH Wrestling has been working towards another great season with open mats, and even hosting a field trip to an Illini Wrestling match to recruit new members for the upcoming season. Official practices for wrestling started this week at Oblong. The wrestling teams first match is on November 21st against the Mount Carmel Aces at 6:00 PM in Oblong.

The Pal-Hut Scholastic Bowl teams season has also started. Their first match will be on Saturday, November 18th when they will compete against several schools in a tournament.

Make sure to try to make it to a couple of games of each sport this winter season to support your OPH Wildcats!
