Oblong Spooktacular Parade

Oblong Spooktacular Parade

The Spooktacular Parade in Oblong Illinois happens every year, usually around the last Saturday in October. People come from all over to watch and/or participate in this parade every year, including our very own Palestine Marching Pioneers! If you ask any band member or parade participant in general, they will say that this is one of the most important parades of the year.

There are parade floats, bands, sponsors, and many more. They all play an important role in the entertainment aspect of the parade.

The bands provides music which people of all ages seem to enjoy every year. Some bands dress in their full uniform, and some wear costumes. One thing that all the bands have in common though: they all bring their A-game and never fail to put on a good show for the watchers.

The parade floats are always decked out with as many decorations as possible. Some even throw out candy! These parade floats can be local businesses, local sponsors, and others. They never disappoint when they roll down Main Street!

The parade in itself is a very late parade, compared to most local parades. It usually starts late in the evening, when its dark and chilly, further setting the spooky Halloween mood.

This parade, unlike other local parades, is judged, and bands can win awards for bringing their best looks, sounds, people, and performance overall. There is also an after party for the bands who participate in the parade. It is held at Oblong High School Football Field.

I also like that we get to interview different people that most probably haven't interacted with, which helps me to learn more about the people I go to school with.
