Cats are amazing animals with many cool secrets. From super hearing and jump skills to their love of sleep, they are full of surprises and much more! Here is a little peak into why our pet friends are so unique, and why people adore and love them so very much!
- Super Sleepers and Big Nappers!
Did you know, overall cats sleep for about 70% of their lives? That means a cat would spend roughly 13-16 hours a day catching up on their rest! While that sounds like tons upon tons of sleeping around and lazy time, it helps them save energy for running and playing.
- Born to Jump and Run!
Cats are built like tiny little athletes. A house can on average jump up to fix or six times its own height! They are also impressively very fast. Over a short period of time, a fast cat can even outrun a superstar runner Usain Bolt! They owe a lot of this to their unique bodies; cats actually have over 230 bones, while people only have 206.
- Ears and Whiskers
Did you know? A cat’s face is designed to help them sense the world. Each of their ears has around 32 muscles, allowing them to turn their ears in all directions to catch even the quietest sounds! Their whiskers are also very unique and special tools, they use their whiskers to help them measure spaces and “see” what is near them in a very dark area!
- The Way Cats Communicate!
When cats are very happy, they purr! Some scientists even think a cat’s purr might have special healing powers to help their bodies stay healthy. Interestingly, adult cats do not actually meow to talk to other cats. Instead, they prefer meowing just to communicate with their human owners. They have learned that meowing gets our attention!
- Their unique ways of taste!
Cats can tend to be very picky eaters at times because they have far fewer taste buds than humans. While people have thousands of taste buds, cats can only have around a few hundred. More importantly, cats cannot taste anything sweet at all! Because and due to them only eating meat, they do not need a sweet tooth.
These are all just a few of the unique and fun things that make our cats so special. Whether they are napping in the window where the sun hits most, chasing a toy around the house, or begging and asking for food, there is always something new to learn about our furry friends.
