Yes, you read the title correctly, opera is returning to the Fife Opera House in Palestine, IL! Or something like it.
It has been a while since there has been an opera performance at the Fife Opera House, but soon, the Fife will soon be hosting Klassika, who will be coming all the way from Florida for this very special performance.
Klassika is not your run of the mill musical act. Singing in a genre called Classical Crossover, Operatic Pop, or Popera, this quartet beautifully fuses their vocal talents like you’ve never heard before. The musicians’ classic operatic training makes them uniquely qualified to create a beautiful blend of classical finesse and contemporary chart-toppers. They take fun and popular songs and make them their own by putting a classical twist on them, creating a sound that really wows their audiences.
The Classical Crossover genre was born in the late 1980s when famous opera singer Luciano Pavarotti begin singing and recording songs with many contemporary popular singers such as Mariah Carey, Barry White, Sheryl Crow, James Brown, Tom Jones, and Celia Cruz.
Some of Klassika’s songs include: All of me, Hero, Somewhere, You Raise me Up, The Prayer, Time to say Goodbye, I Will Always Love You, Never Enough, My Way, and Piano Man. The group backs up the vocals with violens, cellos, drama, and synthetic sounds to create their unique sound. Bruno Mars’s hit, Just the Way You Are, has become their signature song.
One of the vocalists has pointed out that opera is not a very forgiving genre, whereas Operatic Pop leaves a lot more room for artistic interpretation, which they enjoy.
Save the date on your calendars for Saturday, November 4!
