Did you hear the news? Universal Studios has taken it upon themselves to turn this dream into a reality. How To Train Your Dragon originally released in 2010, is now getting a live action reboot! It’s set to be released early 2025.

How To Train Your Dragon follows the adventures of a young Viking, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III, son of the infamous Stoick the Vast, leader of the Viking Island of Berk. Immediately dismissed as a clumsy, underweight misfit, he soon becomes a renowned courageous, expert in Dragons. After discovering an injured Night Fury, one of the most dangerous dragons in all of berk, he befriends it, allowing him to become the first Viking to ever ride a dragon.

This classic tale, based on the eponymous series of children’s books by British author Cressida Cowell, has had multiple additions to it allowed its fanbase to grow.

Now, the fanbase has begged for a live action movie, and they are going to get it. Hiring Dean DeBlois, the filmmaker behind the original trilogy, back in the saddle as writer, director and producer. DeBlois is making his live-action debut with the feature. Helping him make the transition will be veteran movie and theater producer Marc Platt, whose credits range from Legally Blonde to La La Land to Universal’s upcoming adaptation of Wicked. Platt will produce via his Universal-based Marc Platt Productions alongside Adam Siegel, president of Marc Platt Productions.

They have already started casting for this live action adaptation. The casting’s include:

Hiccup, played by Mason Thames

Astrid, played by Nico Parker

Stoick the Vast, played by Gerard Butler (the original voice actor for Stoick)

Gobber, played by Nick Frost

The excitement for this movie is growing and the fanbase is excited for this new addition to this franchise.
