The prompt for the 2022-2023 VOD Essay is “Why Veterans Are Important.” English I-English IV classes are assigned every year to write an essay that will be submitted to the judges to be judged. The essays have to be voice recorded and range from 3-5 minutes long.

This years 1st place winner was Ahlya Abel, 2nd place winner was Devin Lawyer, and 3rd place winner was Morgan Knoblett. Another one of our students, Kaden McCormack, was chosen to receive 1st place while representing Arcola. First place winners receive $100, 2nd place winners receive $75, and 3rd place winners receive $50.

Thursday, November 17th these four winners went to the WTYE radio station to re-record their essays and send them in to the district level competition. The winners of the district level will go on to read their essays at the state level. If you are the winner at the state level, then you will go on to read your essay in Washington D.C. at the national competition.

Good luck at the district level to the four local winners!
