We live in an age where technology is crucial to us, most things rely on you to be connected to WiFi through a cellphone to be able to use it. Most of us have a smartphone for emergencies, entertainment, or to connect to people all over the world. This most definitely has its pros and cons like all things. Say you have a hard time connecting to people in real life, you can meet people all over the world and connect with other cultures. You can make life long connections to people over the internet, but you can also run into not so great people. People on the internet, especially now, can be very deceiving. With the rise of AI technology we face bigger issues with technology and people faking their identities and using AI to create deep fakes, fake voices.
This is especially harmful to the younger generations, because let’s face it most kids nowadays have some sort of tech, and most kids don’t have their screen time is not monitored. They can think they’ve made a new friend, and if they tell them personal information like where they live, where they go to school, etc. They can possibly be kidnapped, which is super scary and disturbing.
Gen Alpha struggles most with technology due to their parents, sadly when you see children out and about most of them are glued to a phone or a tablet. This causes constant digital stimulation, which causes dependency and a serotonin imbalance and other mental health issues. When you ask most Gen Alpha kids what they like to do most say, YouTube, playing Roblox, or anything to do with technology.
Gen A children have a high rate of children who struggle with their attention spans due to constant screen time. Teachers say that most of the younger children they teach have behavioral issues such as becoming easily detached, easily angered, shortened attention span, lack of motor skills like handwriting, difficulty retaining information, completing work, needing constant stimulation, and difficulties multitasking. This has led to more technology based work, which saves on paper but greatly risks loss of skills like good handwriting and critical thinking skills. Gen Alpha faces more issues than previous generations with their attention spans due to fast paced entertainment. I believe that the internet should be for older people, I feel as though kids are growing up way too fast due to constant exposure to the internet with or without being monitored. Kids no longer enjoy playing with toys or being outside, they live in a digital world now. And this is hard to watch and even experience. Kids should be playing in mud and collecting bugs and enjoying life not glued to a screen. I think it greatly impacts their quality of life and knowledge.
Now I can’t lie and say that I don’t struggle to put down my phone or to turn off the TV sometimes, but there has to be some limits to what we do with our technology, or with our screen time. Now technology that we have currently is very useful to find out things, and to expand our knowledge of the world. Technology is a very important asset to life now, and that won’t ever delay. It’s just the matter of how we use it that is most important. With AI now the internet seems very deceiving at times, but AI can also be used for so many great things like increasing efficiency, reducing errors, and fast decision making. We could use AI technology to help our environment and make it cleaner, and better. But I feel like as a whole we aren’t using AI for the right reasons. I don’t believe that AI should replace everything, because if it did the world would feel less alive. There are also many flaws with AI like security risks, over-reliance, lack of creativity and emotion, and more.
With how we move on in our world with our technology developing and getting better day by day, we should be wise with how we use it. But we must also remember that our world cannot be replaced artificially, we must choose what we do, and hopefully make positive impacts on our world with our always developing technologies.
