Valentine’s Day: A Good Reason For a Smile

Shara Coffman, Editor

Love is in the air this month. February is a month either people look forward to or majoring in dread of loneliness. Or maybe it is just straight up cliché. Or maybe it is a good reason to make someone smile.

Now for the girls and guys who love to feel special, let me hear ya! Yes, should you show love and compassion to your significant other all year around, certainly. But a day to shower me with chocolate, hugs, and jewelry?  Sign me up.

Now is it unspoken that your significant other should HAVE to ask you to be their valentine? Maybe not, but sometimes it is nice to be “reassured” that they are thinking of you in a different way. Not to put age on things, but a lot of times when we age with our significant others we forget about the little acts of love that we can give them, and asking them to be your valentine can be something to bring some youth back into your relationship and really make them feel special.

It is said that the average American will spend around $192 this Valentine’s Day. So obviously most of us Americans take this holiday pretty seriously. However, love is not all about the money that you can spend on someone, but maybe the time you are willing to spend. Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be about the gifts; it can be about the quality time you get to spend with your significant other.

Whether your Valentine is your best friend or your high school sweetheart, stop thinking it is a cliché

thing to celebrate your love you share with one another. Go out there and make them feel special. It’ll bring a smile like you’ve never seen. Take that chance. Valentine’s Day is worth the cheesiness?
