On Monday night, September 10, the OPH junior varsity team played Cerro Gordo in Palestine. Before that the team had not won any games and they were 0-2, but the team managed to pull a win over Cerro Gordo 7-6. Cerro Gordo started out 2-0, but OPH put them at 2-1.

The game started out well with Diego Lliteras scoring in the first quarter of the game to put the game at 7-0 after Diego also kicked the PAT. After the big score the game was dull with no scoring until the third quarter when Cerro Gordo scored on OPH. They tried for a PAT but Dylan Sallee blocked the kick.

The OPH offense couldn’t pull anything together after their score but their defense was able to keep Cerro Gordo from scoring in the rest of the third and throughout the entire fourth quarter.

It wasn’t a high scoring game but that just means it was a hard hitting one. This was a very special win because not only was it their first win of the season but it was the first win ever for the newly made OPH team. I’m sure their head coach, Cade Fulling, the offensive coordinator, was very pleased with them after the game. GO OPH!
