Practice S.A.T

On Thursday, April 4, 2019, at 6:00 p.m., the junior class will have an opportunity to take a practice SAT test here at Palestine High School in preparation for the actual test the following week on April 9. The juniors have been getting ready for the actual SAT since Christmas, taking various Reading and Writing and Language practice tests in Mrs. Hyde’s English 3 class, and writing several practice SAT essays using sample prompts.  Mrs. Hyde told her English 3 class, “Do not stress about the S.A.T and don’t assume you’ll do poorly because your scores  will most likely surprise you and be higher than you expect, especially if you’ve taken the practice SAT.”

In Mrs. Cohorst’s math classes, students have been practicing for the math portion of the SAT by using the Khan Academy SAT practice site. Because not all junior are enrolled in a math class, preparing for the math portion of the test can be tricky, often requiring students to review concepts on their own.

Palestine High School has given practice SATs for several years because statistics have shown that every time a student takes the test, his or her score tends to improve.  So by taking the practice SAT first, students are likely to score even higher on the actual test.  With just a few exceptions, this theory has proven true for nearly all of the PHS students who have made the effort to take the practice test first.

Students who take the 3 hour long practice test on Thursday, April 4, will be treated to pizza on a break during the test.  After the test is over, they will be able to use their Khan Academy accounts to scan their answer sheets and give them an immediate score.  Students already have access to their PSAT scores through this website and several are using the website’s SAT practice site to get in even more practice before the test.
