The juniors and seniors mid-game

Last Friday night was the time for the biennial Donkey Basketball, which was held in Palestine High School’s gym at 7:00 p.m.  Three games were played among four teams, and each game lasted sixteen minutes with a halftime break at eight minutes.  The first game was played by the senior team and the junior team, and the second played by the two PHS alumni teams.  The first game was won by the seniors, and the second was won by the younger community team.

During intermission, children under 12 got the chance to ride the donkey around the gym.  After intermission, the last game took place and was played by the senior and younger alumni teams.  The game was a fairly close match, however the PHS seniors came out on top and won Donkey Basketball!

After this game was over, it was time for Kiss the Donkey, a Palestine Academic Foundation fundraising contest in which votes were cast by depositing money in jars around town for one of four different candidates.  The candidate whose jars contained the most money received the honor of kissing the donkey at the end of the game.  The winning team chose the donkey that the winner of Kiss the Donkey would have to kiss.  The people in the running for Kiss the Donkey were Mrs. Sisil, Ms. Waldrop, Mr. Macke, and Mr. Will.  At the end of the night, it was Ms. Waldrop that had the most money in her jar, which made her the “winner” of Kiss the Donkey.

Palestine’s tradition of Donkey Basketball is great, because it brings fun to the community and financial support to the Palestine Academic Foundation!
