The winter Olympics have started in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo Italy. The games have been on for a few days. Here is some information about who is winning with controversy and talk over some of the games.
Dutch star Xandra Velzeboer won the 1000 meter gold medal in women’s short track speed skating just four days after topping the podium for the 500 meter. Jordan Stalz of America wins gold in the men’s 500 meter speed skating setting a new Olympic record with a time of 33.77 seconds. At only 21 years old there is more to be seen with him. Americas hockey is looking to be in the finals as they go against Sweden in the Semi Finals today. Figure Skater Ilia Malinin nicknamed the “Quad God” is one of the rising stars in the sport and was expected to win big at the Olympics but in the free skate he finished in eighth. He had won his last 14 events including two world championships. “I blew it” is what Ilia had to say after the loss. In curling there has been sparked controversy over Canadian men’s and women’s team and Britain’s men’s team being accused of the same infraction, which was double touching the stone after the release. In curling you are only supposed to touch the handle and once it is released you cannot touch it again. Apparently these teams did not follow those rules which led to fighting between them and the opposing team.
