The College Football Championship game vs the Miami Hurricanes and the Indiana Hoosiers was played last night (January 19, 2026). The undefeated Indiana Hoosiers finished this once in a lifetime run by winning the big trophy. The score of the game was close at 21-27 but it seemed Indiana was in control the whole time.
The game started off with Indiana getting a field goal then a stop not long after. The next drive explained the Hoosiers’ whole season. They drove it down the field and their Heisman winning quarterback, Fernando Mendoza, leapt into the inzone with a tackle breaking run on 4th and 4. Mendoza has led this team all season and finished the game with 186 passing yards but it wasn’t just him and his teammates that did this. Their coach Curt Cignetti turned the program around from a national leading 713 loss team to winning the National Championship in just two years. This is almost unheard of at any level of any sport. Fittingly this happened 50 years after the famous Bob Knight led the Indiana Hoosier basketball team to a 32-0 run. Which has never been replicated since. Some think the same will happen for football as well.
The game was very exciting to watch and came within three points in the fourth quarter but Indiana pulled away. Do you think this will be done again anytime soon?
