Today is the opening day of the 2nd gun season for deer hunting in the state of Illinois. This gun season is different from the others; the Illinois DNR is allowing youth tags to still come into play, when typically the tag expires the Sunday night of the first gun season. The reasoning behind this action is due to the last gun season there were not as many deer killed as the DNR would have wanted.the number of deer killed this first season was 51,509 when typically it is in the 64,000 range and the DNR states if there are not more deer killed it could cause population explosion and the deer population is already onto a very big rise currently and if out of control could cause destruction to crops and cause farmers to lose money. The DNR is pushing people to buy deer licence and talked about getting more buck tags for this season and opening january which is typically a doe only season to opening it back up for bucks to help bring down the population more and help with the destruction of crops in the state if illinois
