On Tuesday, January 23, the Lady Wildcats took on the Marshall Lions in Oblong. This would be the last home game in Oblong of the season, the first of two senior nights for the seven seniors.

JV took the floor first. Emily Rachoy, Emma Newlin, Sam Meese, Autumn Taylor, and Val Kersten were the first five to start. With as much enthusiasm these girls had for their last home game in Oblong, the Wildcats, unfortunately could not keep up with the Lions. The JV took a loss at their last Oblong game of the season.

Next up, the varsity Wildcats vs. the varsity Lions. After starting line up, Cydney Pethtel, Marissa Neely, Ginna Russel, Gemma Gonazalez, Francesca Comandini, five of the seven seniors, started the game off strong. By half time the Wildcats were down, the score and their heads. By the third quarter they had lost all hope in catching up to score with the Lions. By the fourth quarter the Wildcats took the loss.

With that being said, there was some positivity at last night’s game. The seniors got to celebrate their basketball careers as this would be their last season as OPH Wildcats. The seniors were announced and walked out in between the JV game and varsity game. Cydney was injured most the season and Addison was injured the whole season, sad to see such a devastating end to their basketball careers. When asked how she felt that her basketball career was coming to an end, Cydney Pethtel stated, “I am sad that I won’t play basketball again after this season.”

The OPH Wildcat seniors will be celebrated again as they have one more Palestine game on February 1. Go and cheer them on!
