Lighting of Park

Lighting+of+Park

Have you driven down by Leaverton Park in Palestine lately? If so, you will notice they are already beginning to hang lights and it is looking great! The annual Lighting of the Park will take place on November 24, 2023 at 6:00pm. This is one of the greatest times of the year in Palestine, IL.

On this evening there will be music, cookies, cider, cocoa and coffee. There will also be fireworks to enjoy shortly after the event begins. Once the fireworks conclude there will be a very special guest for the little ones to enjoy that are attending. Santa Claus will come in on a Firetruck! The kids always love this as it is a very magical time of the year for them. People come from all over the surrounding counties to enjoy the lights in our park. Once you enter the park, there you can tune to the instructed radio station to enjoy music that plays along to the lights. The lights include inflatables, tunnels, and more!

The lights will be up from November 24, 2023 – New Years Day 2024. Just a fun fact for you… did you know that Christmas wasn’t always celebrated on December 25th? While Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus Christ the actual date of the big event is lost to history. There is no mention of December 25th in the Bible, and many historians say Jesus was most likely born in the Spring. Be sure not to miss this awesome lighting of the park and make this one of your holiday traditions!
