Last Friday night, Palestine tried something new. We decided to have Homecoming coronation at halftime of our homecoming game, so on Thursday October 4th, all the attendants and candidates went to the football field to practice for the following evening.

Once Friday rolled around, so did our stomachs as we were all very nervous and excited to see who would win king and queen. We all met at the field at 6:30 and began to get ready in Mrs. York’s room. This was a bonding time for everyone, and made it so much more exciting to be doing this with friends!

Once everyone was dressed, it was time to go out under those stadium lights! There are no words to describe how we all felt, and especially the seniors as they were about to go out for the last time as high school students. “Walking down the hallway with Grace and Ashtin was when it really hit that this is it and we will not be together next year like we have been for so long!” says Senior Allison Dunlap. With all these mixed emotions, we were all able to overcome them and walk out on the field with confidence.

This was something unique for PHS, and something I’m sure they will keep going for future students and their classmates. It was such an honor to be one of the first to walk out onto the turf for coronation, and will be one we will never forget. I would also like to send out my congratulations to King Quentin Postlewaite and Queen Drew York on this great accomplishment!
