Are Seniors Ready for the Real World?

Bridgette Woodward and Elliott Meadows

Yesterday Flying S put together a day of fun and hard work for the seniors, allowing them to take on challenges that aren’t always taught in schools, such as car maintenance, making a fire, building a shelf, finance, public speaking, and cooking.

Students left school early at 2:45pm to get to Flying S by 3:00. The event went until 6:00, then was followed with a self made spaghetti dinner until 6:30.

Each task the seniors took on was considered to be important to know before graduation to be prepared for adult life. Each one was a life skill one should know regardless if it’s an everyday thing or something that you may need to do once a month. The Seniors were given a packet of papers in advance that went through each task they conquered. The list of topics were; Finance/office, History, Kitchen, Garden Skills, Home Maintenance, Car Maintenance, and Speaking Skills and DIY.

In addition, they gave away multiple things including money, hammers, hats, and gift cards. The seniors had a great time at this event and it was a great opportunity. Thank you to Flying S for hosting this event.
