Would you believe that Illinois girls basketball started as early as 1895? They didn’t join the IHSAA until 1920od, and today, girls basketball is enjoyed at Palestine as part of the co-op with Oblong and Hutsonville.  On October 12, OPH Girls’ basketball started open gym. This will go on from now until the end of October (see below for schedule).

The coach is Mr. Blank, and the assistant coach is Ms. Cutright. This is Ms. Cutright’s second year as assistant coach. General practices are held between Oblong and Palestine gyms. If you play you can expect to practice most nights Monday through Friday when there isn’t a game. The first official practice is Monday, October 31st. The first game is November 14th at Dugger.

The girls who are playing from Palestine include Emily Rachoy, Addison McNair, Daylen Beckes, Cydney Pethtel, Shara Coffman, and Autumn Taylor, so far. But it’s not too late to join them. If you’re not playing we hope to see you in the stands to cheer on our athletes!
