Can You See It?

Did you know most semi trucks or big machines can’t see you unless you are three car lengths behind them? Did you also know that it can take semis a football field’s length to come to a complete stop safely?

Last Thursday at PHS Mr. Will put together an Ag Day for the freshman. In this small event a few people who drive tractors and trucks came and talked to the group about the safeties and precautions they need to take when following behind any semi or tractor on the road.

The freshman broke into groups and got to climb up into the vehicles. Behind each semi and the one tractor were smaller vehicles or different colored boxes. They took turns hopping into the semis and tractor and were told to focus on what they could and couldn’t see in the mirrors. A few people could only see the farthest box from the semi, others couldn’t see any boxes! With handling bigger vehicles, come bigger responsibilities; not all truck drivers and can see small vehicles behind them. Being extra cautious when driving near semis is very important for your safety, and theirs.
