Tough Loss for Varsity Volleyball, Strong J.V. Win

On Tuesday, September 25th, the Hutsonville-Palestine Lady Tigers played both JV and Varsity matches against Villa Grove at their home gym in Hutsonville at 6.  The Junior Varsity game started out slowly, but after a swift talking to by Coach Matthews, they kicked it gear and started to hit and pass very well. They won the first set fairly easily.  In the second set, they played a little better, being ahead of Villa Grove for the whole game. Izzy Sheets, an outside hitter, played exceptionally, getting several kills. Hutsonville-Palestine won the J.V. match in two sets.

Varsity began the game by winning the first several points, showing a strong effort.  However, after the team lost their serve, they had trouble receiving the ball. This made it hard to come back and return the ball.  The Tigers lost the first set. At the beginning of the second set, Marah Matthews started the team out strongly by getting several aces and putting Villa Grove in a receiving rutt.  This set went quickly, and the Lady Tigers played much better as they were moving and talking. In the third set, the first several points were back and forth. However, one of Villa Grove’s players had a strong serve that was hard to return.  This was a struggle for the Tigers, and they ended the night with a loss.

The Tigers will play away on Thursday against Cumberland, starting at 6.  The team will also be playing in the LOVC tournament, which is beginning on September 29 at Oblong.  They will play the first game at 9:00 against Villa Grove.
