Wild Ride

Wild Ride

Palestine is a little village in Illinois with a population of 1,200 people in it so we do not have a whole lot to do. Labor Day weekend has become a ginormous event for the little village of Palestine, Illinois. The biggest event that goes on during Labor Day is the PRCA that goes on Friday- Sunday night at 7pm.

The Pioneer City Rodeo has been going on since 1953 making 2022 the 68th Annual rodeo. This year marks the 68th annual not the 69th annual because in 2020 when all events were canceled they knew that the rodeo would not stand a chance if it was put on. Ever since COVID the numbers at the rodeo grew right back to packing the stands every single night of the exciting rodeo.

History has been made at the Pioneer City Rodeo in 1979 when the ProRodeo Hall of Famer Denny Flynn had a 98 point bull ride. This would hold a nation record for a dozen years and still today is the second highest scoring bull ride in ProRodeo history. This historical ride is what helped put the Pioneer City Rodeo on the maps and ever since this ride Palestine, Illinois has seen a spike in attendance. If it wasn’t for Denny Flynn’s historical ride in 1979 putting the Pioneer City Rodeo on the map, who knows what the rodeo would look like today or if we would even have one.

Everyone is encouraged to attend the Pioneer City Rodeo. It is a family friendly show that the kids will really enjoy. The clown and the animals provide lots of entertainment for the kids and the actual rodeo provides lots of entertainment for the adults.
