Lady Tigers vs. Marshall

On Tuesday night, September 18th, the Lady Tigers played three matches against Marshall at their gymnasium.  The first match was Fresh/Soph, which started at 5:15. The game began with Mckenna Love serving several that Marshall could not return.  After a couple plays, we lost the ball, and then the set went back and forth. Marshall took the first set. In the second set, the Tigers started to move and pass the ball better.  This allowed for the plays to be more smooth and strong. Katie Draper had many serves and hits in the match. The Tigers won the second set easily. At the start of the third set, the Marshall Lions got on a run, which made coming back much harder.  Marshall was ahead the majority of the game, but we ended the match by being the first to 15.

The Junior Varsity match was very similar to the Fresh/Soph.  The Tigers started playing slowly, and the other team pulled way ahead.  One of the Tigers went back to serve and scored several points, bringing us closer to the Lions’ score.  Despite the efforts, the Lady Tigers could not finish the first set with a win. In the second set, the Tigers did not let anything drop, and they played much harder.  Hutsonville-Palestine got the second set win, and went to three. In the third set, the score was back and forth until Marshall pulled ahead and took this set. Marshall ended the match with a close win.

The Varsity match started roughly with a few mistakes that should not have happened.  The Lions pulled far ahead, but the Lady Tigers found the other team’s holes and use that to their advantage.  Marah Matthews had some strong serves that brought up the team’s morale. Although they finally got in gear, the Lady Tigers lost the set by six points.  In the second set, Hutsonville-Palestine came back ready to play. Allison Dunlap had several good hits that brought the team ahead. The game was fairly close, and there were many rallies won by the Lady Tigers.  However, in the final moments of the match, Marshall had some strong plays that the Tigers could not defend. Marshall won the second set by two points.

The Lady Tigers’ Varsity and Junior Varsity will play September 20th against Tri-County in Kansas.  The J.V. game will start at 6:00 p.m., and Varsity will follow that game.
