The Struggles of Adulting

Shyan Dunlap, author

Money is the biggest struggle with being an adult. I live with my three best friends, we are renting to own a trailer. I also have a rather large car payment and high insurance. I am also super lucky and got a speeding ticket yesterday. Gas is through the roof which is an issue because I work half an hour away now. We’re also trying to turn our little trailer into a home my friends and I have put a lot of money into fixing our place up.

My current bills are my car payment at $300, my car insurance at $260, my rent at $308, and my wonderful speeding ticket at $164

However in order to stress less about money I have to work to get money. This is where time is an issue. I go to school roughly 40 hours a week and I work at McDonald’s around 40 hours a week. That’s 80 hours a week occupied with only 168 hours in a week. Now let’s count the hour round trip since I work half an hour away. That’s 17 hours of my 24 hour day used up not counting time for eating and sleeping and other basic human needs. Time is a thing that I run low on. Very low. But it’s something to get used to because it’s not going to get better until I retire.
