Is Sleeping In School Okay?
Sleeping in school is pretty common, but is it okay?
Many students sleep in school when they’re tired or just bored. Maybe students don’t get enough sleep the night before due to work or due to home issues, but often you catch students catching zzs. I have some mixed opinions when it comes to sleeping at school. If you’re failing your classes, then sleeping in class isn’t really a great idea. Napping in class and not paying attention isn’t a great idea either, and neither is skipping class to go nap. Now if your teacher says it’s okay to nap after you finish a test or something, then I don’t see the issue. I personally don’t agree with sleeping in class if you don’t have a legit reason for it other than you just want to. You may never know what the student’s situation is though.
Rider Lawhorn, believer in napping in school, says, “I do believe that sleeping in school is perfectly okay, especially for someone like me. I have perfectly good grades and I get all of my homework done. I don’t see an issue.”
I got opinions from both sides. Krescene Holscher, non-believer in napping in school, says, “I think sleeping during school should only be acceptable in the most dire situations. Sleeping during class time doesn’t just waste the teacher’s time; it also hurts the student’s education. Then, they may have to stay up later at night to catch up, which just makes thing worse. It becomes a slippery slope. On top of all this, it’s just outright disrespectful.”
Do you think sleeping in school is okay?

I believe (as a former habitual sleeper) that sleeping in class is very rarely okay. The teachers that spend their time trying to educate and prepare you deserve more respect than that shows. However, some teachers will be okay with catching some zzs in certain situations. Also speaking from experience, I believe that if a student is sleeping through their school day because of other obligations, such as work or extracurricular activities, those students need to reevaluate their priorities.

“Burnout: is a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by excessive and prolonged stress. It occurs when you feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, and unable to meet constant demands” the definition of burnout. With juniors dealing with SATs and seniors dealing with senoritis there are probably a lot of students dealing with burnout. Burnout leaves you absolutely exhausted and feeling like you can’t catch up. I believe sleeping at school is fine and that mental well being is far more important that one class day
