Senior Spotlight: Isaiah Coates
January 28, 2022
Isaiah Coates plays a lot of guitar in his free time. He is also in a band called WMD, which stands for Weapons of Mass Destruction. “Killer title, I know,” he said. His favorite memory of high school was when Chief of Police, Jeff Besing, was at PHS and using the little airhorn to train us in school shootings protocols. “I was going down the narrow steps and Jackson pushed Jerden down the stairs. He fell into a bunch of different people, and it was so funny.”
Isaiah’s favorite class this year is P.E. He said, “All my guy friends are in there, and it’s always a good time.” Physical science taught by Mrs. Cohorst is his favorite class he’s ever taken, though. “All the projects were really fun.”
Isaiah’s favorite part about high school is the people and the environment. “I think it’s fun coming here and just hanging out, doing homework, making friends, and doing stuff. I’ll miss all that.” On the flip side, the worst part of high school for Isaiah has been getting behind in schoolwork. “I get sidetracked a lot and then I don’t do my work. When I get backed up a lot it’s really hard to come out of it.” His advice for the lower classes is, “Do your homework. It’s very important and it should come first. Don’t do what I did and just don’t do your homework.”
After high school, Isaiah’s plans are to find a good-paying job and a nice place to live. Eventually, he plans on opening a mom-and-pop guitar store. “I have a lot of guitars, so I do need to sell some of them. I probably have around 100 just in storage that I don’t really play anymore. I thought that would be a good way to get rid of them, and I’ve always wanted to run a little guitar store.”
