The Bunny Business

Kieran Jenkins, Contributor

I heard there was a small business that made homemade treats for rabbits and other animals, but at first I didn’t know who ran it.  Then I found out it was my childhood friend, Keirsten Bates.

Keirsten, who graduated from Palestine High School in 2020, started her business, Archie’s Bakery, in 2019, because she was inspired by her own rabbits.  During her last year of high school, Keirsten’s pet rabbit Archie spent his days at the high school in Mrs. Benton’s classroom, where Keirsten and her classmates cared for him.

Keirsten loves making her animal treats and she said that what keeps her going is the number of followers she has and how happy the business makes her.  Her followers love buying her homemade pet treats.

Keirsten’s treats are made with oat flour based ingredients.  Her dog treats also have peanut butter and banana in them.  Keirsten has enjoyed her business, but she says, “I didn’t really think I would make it this far with my business, but I don’t regret it.”

While she enjoys making treats for her four bunnies, Keirsten has expanded her treat businesses to include treats for dogs as well.  She sells her treats through facebook, selling a 10 piece sample pack for $5, a pack of 30 treats for $10, and a large pack of 50 treats for $20.

Her treats are all homemade.

For Keirsten, making treats is a full time business, often keeping her very busy.  She says, “it’s a full time job for me, but I find it a fun job.”

Currently, Keirsten is the only person working for her small business.  Will she someday have a team of employees working for her?

“I don’t have a team now, but my mother does like to help sometimes!”

Keirsten also has an Instagram and other platforms to contact her business. If anyone is looking forward to seeing what she has on her website or just wants to suport her, please go to https://linktr.ee/Archiesbakery
