Palestine High School was built in 1940. Something this old has to have a few stories about it. As you might’ve heard or experienced, a lot of people say the high school is haunted. Mr. Will said that toilets flush here late at night when no one’s around. He also said he’s seen a picture taken after hours by a past student that looked exactly like a ghost. Mrs Hyde said that after a drama club theater dinner, when they were cleaning up and they had turned the lights off to leave; after they walked across the dark gym and stepped outside to lock the door, the lightly suddenly turned all back on. The rumor is that it’s the spirit of Jerome Jochim. He is a past principal and a basketball coach for PHS. He is also Mrs. McKinley’s, the grade school PE teacher’s, father and was a great guy. Mr Jochim was very dedicated to his job and loved the school. When he died around 2013, his funeral was held in the gym. No one will really know if PHS has a ghost, but there’s nothing to worry about from as good of a man as Jerome Jochim.
