April 3, 2019
The owner of McNair’s, Greg Goodland, has been the Owner of McNair’s for three years now, but he has worked there for over 10 years now. At McNair’s he sells hardware, paint, floor coverings, cleaning supplies, bait, and much more. Before Greg took over McNair’s, Fred McNair owned the store for close to 30 years; however, it has been a hardware store for many years before that. Greg worked for Fred for around seven years. In the future Greg said, “ I would love to be able to do renovations to the building, serve the residents of Crawford County for many more years, and change the name soon.”
Greg went Auto and Diesel College for auto body tech and Lincoln Trail College for welding. Before Greg started working at McNair’s he worked in heating and air conditioning, construction, pest control, and welding and factory work. Greg said, “I do not have much free time since I took over the business, but when I do have time I love fishing, swimming and enjoying nature.”
McNair’s does so much to help the community out. Greg said, “McNair’s is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, we donate to almost all sporting events, and we also donate to all kinds of charitable causes especially when it comes to the kids. McNair’s provides materials for town events and space for organizations to set up and so on. We do what we can do help the community out as much as possible.” McNair’s does so much more for the community because they just want to do as much as they can.
Greg’s favorite part of working at McNair’s is helping people. Greg said, “I love when you know you have helped somebody and you can see it in their eyes that they are truly grateful you were there for them. The most important thing is helping the customers to the best of my ability and keeping people happy and coming back” ” Greg loves being the owner of McNair’s. He said, “Yes I enjoy it, I can’t think of anything else I would rather do. However, it is a challenge sometimes.” Greg said, “the hardest part of the job has been scheduling and money flow and there also has not been much time for family.” Greg said, “It was not too bad of an adjustment becoming the owner of McNair’s because I had already been trained by Fred before taking over, but there was a lot of challenges and worries at first.”
