Quentin Postlewaite speeds around the corner to get a quick start out of the curve

Have you ever wondered what goes on in the life of a motocross racer? My name is Quentin Postlewaite and I will be 18 in 19 days. For many riders an eighteenth birthday means the start of their career and for the other this means more hard work and less opportunity. In motocross you have to be 18 to obtain your professional license and with that license you can race supercross and professional outdoor nationals. This is a dream come true for some.

I have been racing for 4 years. This is an extremely late start in the eyes compared to other racers because the majority of riders start as early as the age of 3. Because of my late start I have had to overcome so much adversity sense now I have to learn skills they have already learned early on in their career. I have always had a natural talent on a dirt bike but I still had to put in a lot of work.

Races are split into classes depending on skill. They range from C being beginner, B being intermediate, and A being advanced. After that there are pro-sport classes you can race in to earn points towards your professional license. When I started racing I was in the C class where I quickly found myself at the front of the pack. That gave me a lot of confidence going into the B class the following year. Stepping up to a new class is always nerve racking because you are use to watching them race from the sidelines seeing how fast they are and you don’t really think you have the skill to compete at that level. I thought I was not going to be good at all in it but once the gate dropped I grabbed the hole shot (the first person around the first turn) and started to run away with the lead. My endurance fell short and at the end of the race I got fifth place. I was really happy with my performance but I knew I could do better. I started to work out a lot more and eat a healthy diet. I cut out all the negativity in my life to make sure I had nothing on my mind when it came to the race. By the end of the season I was winning races and was one step closer to my ultimate goal, my professional license. Currently I am racing A classes and have 20 out of 60 points to my license. I have been putting a lot of work into my racing and I know I have what it takes to be the best and that is what I am going to do.
