One thing that divides this country the most is politics. I am sure everyone has heard, watched or read about the State of the Union Address delivered by President Trump on February 5, after it had been postponed because of the the government shutdown and the speaker of the house, Nancy Pelosi, would not give him permission to come into the House of Representatives.

Normally, in the State of the Union address, the President of the United States addresses the issues that our country is facing and reassures the public of what actions are being taken to solve these issues. The president is usually accompanied by the vice president, the Speaker of the House, and all of the Cabinet members except one. (The sole cabinet member stays behind in case anything would happen, so the country would have at least one member of government left who could take over as president if something were to happen.)

During this State of the Union address, when Trump first got there he didn’t even say a word to Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House. Throughout the whole speech she was sitting behind him shaking her head and chewing on her lip so hard, I thought it might leave a hickey. She wanted to say something, but she couldn’t.  It’s clear that she wants Trump out of office very badly, despite the fact that he actually is doing a lot of good for our country.

During his speech he mentioned the women in congress, blue collar workers and how wages are raising. He also talked about removing N.A.F.T.A (North American Free Trade Agreement), an agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Now there is a new agreement which is called U.S.M.C.A (United States, Mexico, and Canada Agreement). He talked a little bit about the opioid crisis that the United States is suffering which involves prescription drugs and is causing many overdoses. He mentioned the wall, what is happening without it and laid down the cold hard truth about it.

If you didn’t know, the government was shut down for 35 days, the longest in history, because President Trump did not get the money he wanted for the wall. He asked Congress for $5.7 billion for the wall. To get passed it has to have a certain amount of votes from the Senate which is controlled by the Republicans and the House of Representatives which have a majority of Democrats. President Trump is a Republican and it got through the Senate, but once it got to the House, it ran into problems.

President Trump is a good president to me. I understand his reasoning and why he wants the wall. I am all for the wall because he is wanting to stop drug trafficking, sex trafficking and bringing criminals into the United States. He wants to protect our country.

People say it will cause us to go into debt, but that is a false statement. He asked for 5.7 billion but the  United States is already in debt by $21 trillion.

Trump may not have the best way or exactly know how to bring forth what he wants done and what is best for our country in the right form he should. He may use words in the wrong place, but who doesn’t? Many make fun of President Trump because they say he is “orange”, he talks weird, or he is “dumb” but if someone said that about your friend, you’d be getting defensive. My point is people today would stand up to the person next to them, but they won’t to the one saying the same thing about the person in charge of our country.
