Last year multiple high schools around the country enacted a phone policy for all students. The phone policy was very controversial and still is. Students don’t like it very much, but in some people’s opinion it is easy to get used to. The phone policy has been around for over a year and has helped the students in lots of ways.
Phones in school aren’t necessarily a bad thing, but it distracts students from school work which makes grades worse, and can hurt students mental health. Most student fights or altercations within school start on their phones as well. So taking the students phone during the school day seemed to be a reasonable idea, but some students and parents didn’t like the idea.
Without your phone on you at all times, if something happens that is an emergency and someone needs to contact you it can be difficult. The phones are also student property. Arguments like these started controversy, but in most places the policy was gonna be there.
“ Exam scores climbed as much as 6% in schools that imposed strict bans on cell phones, according to a new study that cautions policymakers to keep strict cell phone policies in the classroom.” Says Dan Kedmey in an article on the website Time. So it seems that almost all schools that put phone policies in place are doing better overall.
