Monkeys can tend to be really silly and energetic animals, with a lot of running and jumping around. A monkey is a common name that may refer to most mammals of the infraorder Simmiformes, also known as simians. Most animals in the group, simians, are counted as monkeys except the apes.
Monkeys are very diverse and intelligent primates; they include multiple species, over 200. They range from all different kinds of sizes and shapes, such as some as small as a guinea pig, while others, (like the mandrill) are the world’s largest monkeys. Mandrolls are known for their wide social lives, using socializations and grooming to communicate and bond. Some others, like capuchines, are known to use tools to forage for food.
Almost all monkeys are also incredibly diverse in their diets, they eat plants, insects, eggs, and even smaller animals. Some monkeys even have their own cheek pouches to store some of their snacks. They also have multiple scientific names set aside their common name, Monkeys. They are really unique, such as Cercopithecidae, Callitrichidae, Cebidae, Aotidae, Pitheciidae, and Atelidae.
Another fun thing, only New World monkeys in the Atelidae family, like howler monkeys and spider monkeys, and capuchins in the Cebidae family, have prehensile tails.
