This is a review of the 1992 film “Reservoir Dogs” by Quentin Tarantino. This was my first Tarantino film so I didn’t know what to expect in terms of style and writing, so I was thoroughly surprised when the film absolutely knocked my socks off.
The film centers around this group of thieves working under this organized crime boss named Joe. This group of men all know Joe, but don’t know each other; leading to a policeman, a rat, in the group. The entirety of the main scenario takes place in a warehouse right after a diamond heist gone south. While the plot on a surface level seems relatively simple, the way the characters are delved into as individuals is where this film really shined in my eyes.
One of the first scenes for example is this rant as to why this guy doesn’t pay tips anywhere. I’ve never seen a conversation between characters feel so human, so real. Most of the conversation was more heart to heart philosophical talk, rather than set up direct points that would only make sense in terms of the story. The film’s characters had their own moral structures that greatly differentiated them from one another; which definitely made me enjoy the entire experience even more.
“Reservoir Dogs” in my opinion was an excellent film, I would highly recommend watching it. I give it a 9/10
