The l5p Duramax was created in 2017 and is still being put in trucks to this day. This diesel engine stock makes 470 horsepower and 975 lb-ft torque. It is generally considered a very reliable engine, however, like any other engine, the L5P isn’t perfect.
It suffers from a few problems, including MAP sensor failure, fuel injector malfunction, weak water pumps, and more. Despite those problems, the L5P is still one of the most durable diesel engines produced in the modern era.
Some of the common upgrades done to these trucks are, cold air intakes, performance tuning, and aftermarket exhaust systems for improved airflow and engine performance. Other popular modifications are high-flow fuel injectors, turbo upgrades and boost tubes for enhanced power, while transmission upgrades and chassis improvements are also considered for reliability under increased power. A very common thing is a diesel truck is deleting the emissions, that makes it breathe better, faster and gets the black smoke you see coming out of these truck, while that is illegal in some states.
The L5P Delete Kit is intended for off-road or race applications and involves removing or bypassing certain emissions control components in the engine, such as the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter) and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) system.
