The Texas Longhorns softball team won their first ever national championship in 2025 defeating Texas Tech in the WCWS. The Texas Longhorns head coach is Mike White the assistant coaches are Ehren Earleywine, Mac Morgan, Mia Scott, Leighann Goode, Katie Cimusz, and Sophia Simpson. Their top nine players are Teagan Kavan, Citlaly Guiterrez, Cambria Salmon, Reese Atwood, Viviana Martinez, Katie Stewart, Kaydee Bennett, Kayden Henry, and Ashton Maloney. The Texas Longhorns softball season ended with a great overall record of 56 wins and only 12 losses.
On June 6th of 2025 the Texas Longhorns won their first ever national championship defeating Texas Tech 10-4. This was a great game Mia Scott had a grand slam to activate the run rule, a Leanne Good three home run, A crucial game winning hit by Reese Atwood in a prior game, and a record breaking single season hit total by Ashton Maloney. In the championship game Texas Tech pitcher Nijaree Canaday struggled against the Longhorns allowing five runs in the first inning and failing to make it through the first inning herself, paving the way to a 10-4 Longhorns victory to clinch the championship. Canaday who had been the nations ace and carried an immense pitch count throughout the tournament was overwhelmed by the longhorns offense in what was the decisive game.
The Longhorns head coach Mike White previewed the 2025 season with high expectations following a national championship win, emphasizing the team’s veteran leadership and the motto “fuel the fire” as they aimed to continue their championship-winning tradition. He noted the importance of players like Reese Atwood and Teagan Kavan, a competitive mindset and the team’s desire to achieve back-to-back titles.
