Alex G has released a new album called Headlights. It was written by Alex G and produced by Alex G himself and a fellow band member named Jacob Portrait. This album was released on July 18, 2025. Alex G released this album because he wanted to share a more personal and introspective reflection on his life and career.
Alex G created this album not completely by himself but with the help of producer Jacob Portrait and Alex’s partner Molly Germer. They also had background vocalists and instrumentists including Carolina Diazgranados, Hannah Nicholas, Carlos Santiago, Justin Yoder, and Veronica Jurkiewicz. Alex G had some inspiration for this including personal experiences of his early 30s, such as fatherhood, love, and life on the road, alongside musical influences like Elliott Smith and Kurt Vile for its late 90s/early 2000s alternative sound and a touch of Neil Young’s Americana-tinged folk.
With this album Alex G has truly showed his constituency with dropping good albums and keeping a good strong fanbase over the period of his 15 years of professional song writing and production. He has done great things for the Indi music scene and has shed a large light on it, introducing many new people to his and others music that are in his genre.
