Should school dress codes be strict? Should students be able to wear whatever they want to school?
I think there should be a dress code to an extent. Overall, though, students should be able to express themselves by wearing what they want. About 60% of students break the school dress code in some way. Whether a girls’ shorts are 1″ too short, a boy wears a sleeveless shirt, or a girl wears spaghetti straps that are “too skinny,” they are still breaking the dress code. If dress codes were less strict, students would have the opportunity to express themselves and be able to feel more comfortable at school.
People claim that girls wearing spaghetti straps are “distracting”. I do not agree with this because if guys were to wear a sleeveless shirt, girls wouldn’t be distracted. I don’t agree with the fact that girls aren’t allowed to wear spaghetti straps because everyone has shoulders and they shouldn’t be sexualized. If guys wanted to wear a sleeveless shirt, I think it should be allowed just the same as girls should be able to. Unless there is someone showing far too much skin, I think the dress codes of schools should be more lenient.
