You’ve probably been bombarded recently by media companies using AI for their website engines, whether it’s to lead you to quicker results, to create images, or to come up with new ideas. But how much is too much? When does it come to the point where we collectively just stop trying and leave all the work to our technology?
I believe that AI will ultimately cause more harm than good in our world. You may not realize it but you’re probably using AI right now. Most new mobile devices use AI, such as Apple, Samsung, Android, and Google. They use it to “enhance” the performance of your phone while it can be turned off, it still poses a cyber security threat.
While many people have good intent when it comes to AI many others sadly don’t. AI crimes have already been prevalent in many areas. A teacher by the name of Wilson Jones who worked at Corinth School district in Mississippi has been brought in by authorities for using AI to create explicit morphed images of his students by going through their social media and using their photos. The Mississippi Department of Education sent a complaint to the Corinth Police Department. On Feb. 27 alleging that Jones violated the Mississippi Educator Code of Ethics. A subpoena was issued to seize his laptop and a thumb drive. Police reviewed the contents and identified eight female students between the ages of 14 and 16 as victims of AI-generated video footage depicting them engaged in sexually exploitative conduct. This is very disturbing because this could happen to anyone who has a public access social media account no matter who you are, whether it is for black mail or for someone who is twisted in the head. This makes it so much easier for predators to prey on others, and you would never know about it.
Internet Criminals have even started using AI generated audio clips of voices of family members to create fake ransoms, they will pose as the “family member” and they will seem like they’re in trouble or are kidnapped and ask for ransom money.
“The FBI is warning the public that criminals exploit generative artificial intelligence (AI) to commit fraud on a larger scale which increases the believability of their schemes. Generative AI reduces the time and effort criminals must expend to deceive their targets. Generative AI takes what it has learned from examples input by a user and synthesizes something entirely new based on that information. These tools assist with content creation and can correct for human errors that might otherwise serve as warning signs of fraud. The creation or distribution of synthetic content is not inherently illegal; however, synthetic content can be used to facilitate crimes, such as fraud and extortion. Since it can be difficult to identify when content is AI-generated, the FBI is providing the following examples of how criminals may use generative AI in their fraud schemes to increase public recognition and scrutiny.” – Public Service Announcement From the Federal Bureau of Investigation, https://www.ic3.gov/PSA/2024/PSA241203.
So when does AI harm the working class? AI has been displacing workers in many companies such as, Amazon, Meta, Microsoft, MSN, Ikea, Blue Focus, and so much more. This puts money into the pockets of big shot CEO’s pockets but leaves the laid off workers penniless. They claim that AI is more proficient and leaves no room for human errors. But AI being, AI, ends up severely lacking when it comes to overall skill and quality that people can give where AI can’t.
In school Artificial Intelligence has been a big issue. It’s sad
If we can’t think for ourselves anymore and have technology rule our lives the world would be bleak and lacking in warmth.
