In most schools, the majority of the recognized sports are football, basketball, baseball, and volleyball. A few schools have golfing and lesser known sports, but what about a school Bass Fishing team? Most lake oriented schools have recognized Bass Fishing teams but what about PHS? Here, we are simply considered a club.
The benefits of having a sport officially recognized as a sport is the funding and increase in school support it would have. Head coaches and normal coaches of football, basketball, and other popular sports are paid, and the sport gets funding and school recognition. The PH Bass team doesn’t get much school funding and coaches do not receive any kind of payment or assistance teaching the competitive side of bass fishing.
If the Bass Team was recognized and put on the same list as football and basketball and other recognized sports, it would be given school funding and be able to do a lot more, including being able to afford helping students get into the sport.
