Peg is our secretary at the Palestine High School; we love her very much, and she loves her job very much. Peg has been working for our high school for about 5 years now. What she loves most about her job is getting to talk to the students and seeing everyone.

When Peg graduated high school she didn´t plan to be a secretary at a high school; she actually wanted to work in an office somewhere, but this seemed to work out perfectly for her. Before she became secretary she owned Peg n´ Reds for a few years, and before that she was a medical insurance biller at the Robinson hospital.

A typical day being a school secretary for Peg starts at 7:30 am, and her day usually consists of crazy mornings trying to make sure everyone’s at school on time and all in the right classes. She also has to be sure all teachers are here and ready to start their day. Throughout the day Peg is usually found in her office chatting it up with other teachers or students in free time, but most of the time she’s on the school phone with someone. Peg’s day usually ends with everyone else at 3:30 pm.

Peg said she receives at LEAST 40-50 phone calls in a day, which for most of us would be a lot to answer in a 7 hour school day.

According to Peg, the craziest excuse she´s heard from a student trying to get out of school was that the ¨barometric pressure was too high.¨

The craziest thing Peg has ever had happen while working here was when she was working after school one day and all of the fire alarms started going off. She thought it was just a routine testing or something, but they were still going off after a few minutes, so she went downstairs to see what was going on. As soon as she got downstairs, she said that all she could see was smoke coming from the cafeteria, so she hurried back to her office and called Mr. Will.  Even Mr. Will was convinced it wasn’t a real fire, but when the fire department arrived, they both realized that it was real.
