On February 12, the English IIII class took a trip to the Windy City (Chicago). The trip consisted of Natalie Yargus, Devin Lawyer, Peyton Pittenger, Adriana Taylor, Susan Hyde, and Brandi Yargus.
They had a full day of events planned. They left around 3 AM to board a train in Effingham, and they arrived in Chicago at around 8:30 AM. The first thing they did when they got to Chicago was go to the Museum of Science and Industry. The building this museum is in is the last building remaining from the 1893 World’s Fair held in Chicago, which is the topic of the book the class just read, The Devil in the White City.
They explored the museum for about an hour and a half. Then, they went to the Shedd Aquarium, where they stayed for about an hour.
Much of their time in Chicago was spent walking and taking trains– often in the snow!
This trip started in 2016

The first class to take the trip to Chicago in English IV, in February 2016.
when that year’s English IVclass was trying to come up with a field trip for English students to go on. That’s when they had the idea to go to the site of the World’s Fair they were reading about in The Devil in the White City. That first year, students paid their own train fare, but in the last couple of years, the Palestine Academic Foundation has graciously funded the transportation costs of the trip.
