What is Christmas and its traditions? A lot of people believe that Christmas is a day to take a moment and give thanks to all the people that you love, and that have helped carry you through the year. This day is to exchange gifts with loved ones, and it is out of remembrance of the gift God gave us in Jesus.
Traditions contributes to a sense of comfort and belonging, bringing people together and enabling people to reconnect with friends. The importance of traditions is it helps bond us with those we love and cherish. Traditions are also a good way to create great memories with the people you love and to pass on throughout the family. Traditions are also a way to see how we are and how different we are from other families.
There are many traditions people celebrate during Christmas like putting the Christmas tree up as a family, build gingerbread houses, putting Christmas lights up around the house, visit Santa, and many more. The way they become traditions is by your family doing them every year. We do many of the same traditions in my household; we put up the tree every year, and we make Christmas cookies. Another tradition that we do every year is watch the Grinch every year right before we do Christmas. We also don’t Christmas on Christmas day, we do it around the 28th.
My boyfriend and I go out and look at Christmas lights as soon as they get put up. So far this year we have gone to Palestine’s, Robinson’s Senco, and Oblong’s lights. Some time soon we are planning on going to Olney’s lights, bercause his dad said, “Those lights are pretty cool to see.”
The reason why we don’t do Christmas on Christmas day is because we have a lot going on. We have a family dinner on my mom’s side of the family and we don’t get home till late; then we go home and watch many Christmas movies. Then when the 27th comes around we open one present before Christmas day and it is usually new pj’s. My dad said “You know, we watch The Grinch every year before we do our Christmas.” We always put our tree up and decorate at least one-two weeks before Christmas, but we didn’t do it this year.
The night before Christmas Eve, I have started helping my parents wrap up my siblings’ presents so they would have some time to sleep before my siblings get up to open up their presents. Every year we always go through at least 2-3 trash bags full of wrapping paper because of all of us kids. This is what I’m excited to see this year–a smile on everyone’s face to be spending time with one another. Every one of my siblings and my parents gets at least one or more things from me, because I want to show my appreciation to my family.
Christmas with my family or any holiday to be honest is the best when I am spending it with my friends and family. My friends have supported me through every rough time I have had so I usually try to get them one thing for Christmas to show them how thankful I am for them being in my life. My family has been there for me through my struggles and they have shown me so much support that I will forever be grateful for them in every way is possible.
