On November 7th there was an engineering competition held at Robinson High School. Around 13 teams attended, each with a JV and a Varsity team.
The Palestine High School varsity team consisted of Daylen Beckes, Devin Lawyer, Peyton Pittenger, and Emily Rachoy. The Varsity team placed 7th in the gravity car competition and 6th in the mystery build competition.
The JV team consisted of Elijah Beckes, Kailyn Shoulders, Miles Holscher, and Brylee Tingley. The JV team ended up placing 1st in the Torsion Catapult competition and 3rd overall.
Each team had to bring four builds to the competition: a toothpick bridge, a gravity car, a catapult, and an airplane. Each of those builds had certain requirements they had to go by. There were judges for each build. After each build was judged, they got to take a break for lunch.
After their Jersey Mikes lunch, a speaker from NASA came and talked to them. After hearing from the speaker, they had a surprise project: a rocket. They had to launch their rocket a certain distance to win.
The awards ceremony took place after the surprise project.
Daylen Beckes says “This was a great opportunity to test my limits and it bettered my team working skills.”
