It’s that time of the year for class rings, caps and gowns, and the company that makes that happens here at the high school is Jostens.
Jostens was founded in 1897, in Owatonna, Minnesota, by a repairman, Otto Josten. He decided to start helping high school students preserve their most meaningful moments and memories through class rings. They also decided to help out with cap and gowns for our fellow seniors.
Now, Jostens doesn’t just sell class rings. They also sell shirts, sweatpants, hoodies, beanies, and a bunch of other clothing options to commemorate the year you graduate.
Their products aren’t cheap. Class rings range from $330 to $450. Shirts run $27.95, hoodies cost $49.95, sweatpants are $45.95, and shorts will set you back $35.95.
Rings were started by the Military at West Point in 1835. Senior Military Colleges have also implemented their own versions of the tradition, they most commonly feature a Ring Ceremony involving a dance or figure, during the cadet or midshipmen’s spring of their junior year, or fall of their senior year.
Nowadays you have a full variety of stones to choose from, and you also have a variety of different designs to choose from, like sports, band, zodiac signs, and all kinds of interests. It used to be that you only had limited things to choose from.
