Yesterday, October 29th 2024, the Journalism class and the History Club worked hand in hand to create a mock election. Thanks to Crawford County Clerk Beckie Staley, we were able to get a touch screen, ballots, and even a tabulator that counted ballots for this. Because this wasn’t an actual election, and to prevent voter fraud, the ballots were printed with the names of baseball players to represent each candidate.
Just like real ballots, this had more than just the federal election on it. This had, in addition to the presidential candidates, coroner, governor, county board, congressional representatives, judicial district, judicial circuit, state representative, county clerk, treasurer, and sheriff.
Of all of those races, I’m sure most only want to know which presidential candidate won within the highs school. With 87.88% of votes, Yadier Molina (who was representing Donald Trump) won the vote. David Ross (Kamala Harris) got 12.12% of votes. We had a total of 66 people vote, which means that 58 out of the 66 voted for Trump while only 8 of the 66 voted for Harris.
