Devin Lawyer was recently named Palestine High School’s only Illinois State Scholar.
To be named an Illinois State Scholar is an honor. The State Scholar Program recognizes seniors in over 200 Illinois high schools who have high SAT scores and a high GPA. According to the Illinois Student Assistance Commission, who run the program, these students are students who have “an especially high potential for success in college.”
While there is no monetary award accompanying the award, Illinois State Scholars are publically recognized in statewide news media, as well as in their local school districts. Because the program recognized the best of the best, receiving the award gives students a definite advantage when applying to college.
Devin is applying for early admission at the University of Illinois, where he hopes to study business.
