Elections are a formal and organized choice by vote of a person for a political office or other position. In the upcoming election on November 5, our country will be voting for the next leader of this great nation for the next 4 years. This year’s election may seem like it’s way different than any other, but though there may be new factors now, it’s still just another election for this country.
Here at PHS we will also be voting for president in a Mock Election to be held Wednesday, October 30. Even though our votes won’t be official, the purpose of the mock election being run by the Journalism class is to educate and prepare students for what they will have to do before they vote and when they vote.
Of course before you even vote, you have to register to maintain numbers and make sure nobody is doubling their vote. Students at PHS will also be required to “register” to vote in the PHS Mock Election using a google form linked on this site and on posters throughout the school.
This Mock Election will consist of all the steps you will have to take for your first ever real election, from registering to going into a voting booth. Students will even take part in three polls between now and the election to gauge which way the student body is leaning throughout the month.
Stay tuned in the next few weeks for articles about election candidates and issues to help you make an informed choice when you cast your vote on October 30.
